Depressed adults may be sad and lethargic. Depressed kids may be angry and aggressive. I work with my clients to find energy and renewed enthusiasm for life. I am knowledgeable about the pharmacology of depression as well as lifestyle changes that lead to healing.
I am somewhat directive in my approach and greatly value humor and creativity in the process. I consider myself successful if my clients experience some new small or large "aha!" each session. People change over the years. Counseling is an opportunity to bring the relationship up to speed with that change.
I am at all times cognizant of the pain and conflicts experienced by children of divorce and I work with them to unravel their conflicted feelings. I work with parents who wish to continue a positive post-divorce collaboration for their own benefit and for the kids’ example.
The grief process cracks a person open. I feel honored to witness the process people go through as survivors. I build on many years as a stress management trainer to help individuals be resourceful and hardy in the face of stress.
I am well versed in the process of helping people with AS and AD/HD find the right post-secondary educational setting. I work with my clients to deal with the stress that invariably comes with perceiving, thinking, and performing at work "outside the box."
I help parents take care of themselves so that the stress of raising an "Attention Different" child does not destroy their relationship. I help them craft strategies to help kids deal with the myriad issues that come with diagnosis. I participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings at school as a mental health resource. I write diagnostic evaluations, school-risk evaluations, and occasionally weigh-in with an opinion around parenting plans.
I work with kids K-12 to help them manage personal stress, stay motivated for school, and behave creatively and resourcefully in dealing with the problems they face. I have a specialty working with children with neuropsychiatric issues such as ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, Tourette’s syndrome, and high functioning autism and am knowledgeable about naturopathic and pharmacologic treatment approaches as well as the typical gifts and challenges found in this population of kids.
I provide telephone consultations for parents and professionals. If you would like to schedule a phone consultation, please call my office phone at 425 454-1787.
A consultation is not a counseling session. It is intervention planning--an opportunity to get my ideas on the problem that your are dealing with to include strategies for remediation.
